There is a constellation of solutions taking place at all scales, in every country, city or neighborhood. We would like to showcase those efforts that are worth sharing to the world. Please let us know if you or someone you know is creating a better world with new SDG solutions.
What are the SDGs?
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.
Why do we need SDG Solutions?
With Goal 17 calling for ‘Partnerships for the Goals’, moving towards delivery of the SDGs is a ‘team sport’. In recognizing the SDGs as a guiding global purpose that demand shifts across all axes of society, knowledge secured from research and by way of education and events is a way in which possible solutions can be shared widely and freely.
What role do universities and colleges play in the SDGs?
We consider higher education has a significant role to play in delivering the SDGs with universities and colleges steeping up to adopt sustainable development as a conscious strategic agenda. Given the urgency of the threats and scale of the opportunities ahead, higher education can help accelerate delivery of SDG solutions. We envision ‘The SDG-Connected University’, key to accelerating delivery of a sustainable and inclusive future.
How will the SDG Solutions Group make a difference?
We know we are all but a small part of a global movement, but we recognize that individual actions can invoke ripple effects globally in our hyper-connected inter-dependent world. We see the SDGs as a systems challenge, and want to find new ways to connect our research, education and events to the wider system of global efforts. While we cannot guarantee our work will make a difference, we are already seeing enormous positive impacts from our work on research projects, our work with individual and sector leaders and work in communities across the globe. Together, we can do more – so please join in.
How can I be part of the SDG Solution?
We firmly believe in the power of partnership and radical collaboration lies at the heart of our approach. We encourage you to reach out to be part of the solution, finding ways to work with us to showcase your research, highlight your education programs and events and share the ways in which your work is advancing delivery of the SDGs.
